I have been using the vise myself for a few months now after fighting my old "legacy" vise for some time. The Norvise vise makes it a joy to tie. The rotary system immediately made me a faster and better tier, especially with my dubbed bodies and hackles which are a lot tighter and more symmetrical. Norvise is not just for the professional tier. Even serious hobbyists or those just tying flies to catch fish will benefit.  American manufactured by a small family business with excellent support with a very active Norvise fly tying community. A lot of excellent videos on how to use...

Classic Partridge and Orange tied with BWO Comp 320 #14. I cannot think of a better pattern for early October. I love how quickly I can spin these up using the Norvise rotary function! I struggle to work with Pearsalls silk - the traditional material. In this case, I used Danville 6/0. Easy peasy and deadly. #flytying #tyingflies #flytyingjunkie #flytyingaddict #flytyingporn #macrophotography #flyfishing #flyfishingonly  #flyfishing #flyfishingmassachusetts #maflyfishing #newenglandflyfishing

Flies, nymphs -

Shearing season is on at the local Alpaca farm. http://luinagreine.com/.  They were nice enough to give me some samples to experiment with my tying. I got nice assortment of red, natural beige, white and black from a juvenile Alpaca's first shearing. Alpaca from juvenile are very fine, follow fiber - could be ideal dry fly dubbing. Today I started with the beige natural Alpaca fiber from an adult. It has very long fibers that dubbing beautifully. Perfect substitute for hare's mask of Aussie possum.  I decided tie my variation of the Gold-ribbed hares ear nymph. My daughter would be happy...

I am a big fan of soft hackle flies and one of my favorite books is Dave Hughes' Wet Flies. This book is absolutely essential for every fly tyer's library. The name is a misnomer. Here on the East Coast US, hatches are in May. Never a blanket hatch, March Brown's tend to hatch sporadically throughout the day. Simple pattern to tie - try adding some light brown CDC tied in after the hackle for a March Brown emerger.  Hook: BWO 100, Tiemco TMC 100 or Mustad 94840 Size 10-16 Thread: Danville 6/0 Flymaster orange. . I really like Fran Betters' Usual fly pattern - basically a comparadun tied with snowshoe hare. I have great look when I am not sure if the fish are targeting emergers or surface. A great searching pattern that is buoyant and easy to see on the water. Materials I use: Hook: BWO 100, Tiemco TMC 100 or Mustad 94840 Size 14-16 Thread: 6/0 or 8/0 bright orange. I used Uni 8/0 Fire Orange. Body:  Natural Snowshoe hare foot Wing: Natural Snowshoe hare foot Video of Davie McPhail expertly tying the pattern, None better - not going to try an compete.
